Glenlohane Bird Sanctuary
When passing Glenlohane one sees our signage which indicates that we are a bird sanctuary. Fifty years ago the family made the decision that the birds on our property should be protected and we have continued to respect the decision.
Our land boasts a huge range of wildlife as a result with a wide range of birds including beautiful pheasants, buzzards, hawks, wrens, dunnocks, siskins and we have owl boxes installed to encourage breeding on our land.
The birdlife brings with it larger mammals and we are delighted to have foxes and badgers breeding and living on our land. We don’t permit hunting on our property but local hunting organisations such as the Duhallow Hunt appreciate our native woodlands for the benefits that it brings for the local populations of birds and respect its sanctity.
